Kedija grew up in the crowded streets of Ethiopia, where she trained as a doctor, healing those who needed it most. But when war and unrest tore through her homeland, she fled, arriving in America with nothing but her knowledge and her family. It would have been easy to give up. But instead, she worked tirelessly to requalify as a physician in the U.S., traveling across the country to attend interviews with the help of grants from community programs. Today, she practices medicine in Chicago, helping those who cannot help themselves.
Her story is one of grit, perseverance, and an unshakable belief in her purpose. Kedija’s journey shows us the importance of providing support to immigrant professionals, ensuring they can continue their work and contribute to their new communities. Her work, saving lives, is proof of the profound impact immigrants can have when given a chance.
